Big World Small Pockets

Trying to travel when you don’t have all the money in the world? Or when you’re a student in college and have to pay for other things like food, rent and textbooks? Relatable.

Looking up different way to save money while traveling has helped me a lot. Easy ways like going on Pinterest and looking at different websites and blogs can help.

For example, I typed in “traveling on a budget” into the search bar of Pinterest and hundreds of websites and blogs came up.

Avoid traveling during peak times, like the holidays.

During these times the flight prices will be at their highest. Booking a flight to leave on weekdays will be cheaper instead of getting a flight on the weekends – Tuesdays especially are usually less money. Also, taking a flight with a layover rather than a direct flight will almost always be less expensive.

One website I found that is amazing is called Rome2Rio. This website will give you all the transportation methods possible to the destination your going.

Staying at an inexpensive AirBnB or a hostel will be a lot less expensive than staying in a hotel.

Taking public transportation, renting a bike, or finding a place to stay where you can walk to everything will save you way more than renting a car for a week.

Pack a carry-on bag instead of checking a bag. Checking a bag will cost you at least $30 more dollars and carry-on bags are usually free. Pack less, less is more, right?

Don’t pay for a bus or walking tour. Make a tour yourself! Ask the locals for their favorite spots and make your own adventure there.

When you get to your destination, go to a local market or food store and buy food for the week. This will save you more money then going out to eat every day. Also, if you’re in an area where there is a lot a street food or food trucks, pick that over restaurants. Food trucks and street food are usually cheaper and a lot fresher and unique.

Every place I go I find the best food in the least known places. So for the next post, would you like to hear about my favorite food spots?
