While being with my parents 24/7 I’ve been asking for their opinions on the COVID-19 pandemic.
I talked to my mom and asked her some questions about how she’s coping, how she’s keeping busy, and some more.
My mom is Nannying my two baby cousins during the week while my cousin goes to work as a medical professional at a local hospital. So, being with a toddler and an infant 3 days a week has kept her very busy. She also said “snack foods have been keeping me busy too.”
My mom has been limiting her information overload, which I think is a good tip too. All I see when I go on my phone is information about COVID-19. It is kinda making me go crazy, so I’ve had to put my phone away for hours at a time and so has she.
I asked my mom if she’s ever experienced anything like this in her life and she said the closest thing to this was when my grandmother (her mom) was in the hospital for an extended period of time. She said “all I did was come home to change my clothes then leave and go right back to the hospital to stay with my mom, thats the only thing I can relate to this type of situation we’re in.”
In my house things still feel pretty normal, and she agrees. We are all very much homebodies so we don’t mind staying home. But, she said she does miss being able to go to TJ Maxx.
Ive been asking my family a lot about how things will be after this all ends, if things will be different or if it’ll all be the same. When I asked my mom she said “No, I dont think things will return to normal, I think that the way we socialize and go out in public may change.” “There will be a fear of large crowds for quite a while and people will be more careful about being sick in public places.”
I do find all of this very scary, and I’m scared for what is to come afterwards. It’s so weird to think that the world will be changed after all this has blown away. I’m also scared it will go away, but then come back and have this happen all over again.
I’ve been trying to stay calm and look at the positives throughout this, even though its been hard.
So, for now, keep washing your hands, stay home, and stay healthy.
